DING DONG Avon Calling, the DELIVERY is for you

Pros: Talent and quality from America’s most leading songwriter
Cons: HEY-YABOTT, Whose on first? ITS Sir Eltons finest CD of this year so far

You may remember this greatly significant writer from such performances like BLOOD ON THE CHOCOLATE, ROCKPILE’S ONLY ALBUM, PUT ON MY RED SHOES TO DANCE THE BLUES, SATURDAY NIGHT IS FOR FIGHTING and BANG ON THE COWBELL, or also his daring attempt at Operah music, TAKE A LETTER MARIA. Well, you would never seem to be able to guess his next move, and this one is no exception — it’s THAT good.
DELIVERY MAN is of course the soundtrack to the newest Steve MArtin comedy movie “MR. JOHNSON RECEIVES A PACKAGE” a hilarious send up of those movies from like 1967 where there was a guy with a lot of kids but no wife who meets a lady who is slender and also has five kids and no husband and so theyre like what the heck lets get get married. The kids fight but it all works out. Anyways, if you like that one, you will love DELIVERY by Costello. His band remains what they are doing best: becoming the snappiest (in a good way) set of performers as far as handling the music (and, yes, manhandling it too when it’s approprorate): – from bass to guitar, from drums to piano and back again, thesse guys have pure talent. He should not keep firing them.
Top songs? Good question, because they’res so many of them, from start to finish. Try the opening track for instances: I AM SITTING ON A LAND MINE rocks like you would expect, while BLUE SAILS IN THE SUNSHINE is a fine song for close dancing, despite its many lyrics. How about COUNTRYTIME LEMONADE for that down home hoe down type of feel (caution: you’ll will want to line dance! It’s THAT good!) or finally the sleepy lullaby to his new young bride, which is called SWADDLING FLEECE. YOU will love it so much it will make you sleep with comfort in a bed.
So what is my verdict? Well, like the man says himself in track four: “Go downtown today, don’t stop along the way, pull out your bloody credit card, and dance the mash potato with the delivering man.” Indeed!

ELVIS has done it again! Ill Songo rocks in style

Pros: Who knew classical music could have any appeal?
Cons: Rock and roll over Beethoven there’s a new dog in town call ELViS

First of, if you are expecting another rhythamic rock songs from this leading craftsman you are only partially correct, but it was a good guess anyway. Give yourself half credit. This time, its called ILL SONGO and it’s a classic masterpiece. he made this time a whole record of just classic violins, cellos, concertos, ect., with a lovely lady signing in Italian all the beautiful words, adopted from the famous Shakespear play, THE LADY WHO FELL IN THE WELL. From the hearwarming scenes of the townspeople gathering around the fountain, to the pesky little dog that saves the day, to the hero she falls in love with (an early Rome version of a fireman, who also doubles as the towns barber and romances expert, called Handsome Sam) to the devil himself she meets while trapped in the well. This sstory will make you think and the music will make you listen. If you concentrate you can do both at the same time. Just look at the some of these songs titles: CHARMED TO MEET YOU, UP COMES THE GROUND, RUSH TO JUDGEMENT, CAN I BORROW A CUP OF TIME? and the big finish where everyone holds hands and sings while we suppose to throw roses or something, TOMORROW IS TODAY’S BEST FRIEND, this CD will have you weeping out of joy while experienceing the notion that all types of music are acceptable. A must-see listen experience. Perfect music to trim the tree! It’s THAT Good! …
